Large, Wet & Dry Water and Sewer Taps

Fulfilling Your Need
With a significant number of commercial developments under way, utilities and construction firms are often faced with the need for large taps into municipal water and sewer systems. This becomes challenging when installing taps requires disruption of service and off-hours installation. Barger and Sons minimizes these challenges by installing just the tap you need – when you need it.

Wet Taps – Live Valve insertion
Need a valve insertion on a critical main line but can’t afford to shut the line down? Barger and Sons can perform a valve insertion while the line remains 100% operational. Valve insertions are available on 4”, 6”, 8”, 10”, and 12” lines including cast iron, ductile iron, asbestos cement, and PVC pipe. Situations that benefit from performing a live valve insertion include:

  • Cutting in a main line valve on a sewer line near a creek or river can be a potential environmental disaster as well as an EPA hassle. A live valve insertion keeps the line 100% operational while eliminating any potential for spilled sewage flowing over into the creek.
  • Backflow prevention can be almost impossible on buildings that were built before regulations were put into place. Cutting off an entire grid to cut in a new valve so a major water user can install backflow prevention devices is not feasible. Performing a main line valve insertion on the water user’s supply, while keeping the line 100% operational, makes backflow prevention device installations possible.
  • Transportation departments enlarge and move intersections to increase safety and move traffic more efficiently. Pre-existing valves get in the way and obstruct progress. Inserting a valve before the intersection allows utilities to quickly and easily reroute main lines without disrupting service to existing customers and fire departments.
  • Most states mandate a grab sample every time a water line is dewatered for leak repair and/or line cut. Eliminate the hassle and possibility of line contamination all together while leaving the line in service. Use a live valve insertion near high complaint areas to prevent tying up the switchboard because of a water/sewer outage. Live valve insertions provide utilities more options to better serve the public.

Dry Taps
There are times when just the size of the job makes you wish you had scheduled vacation. Installing large taps into water and sewer systems may be one of times for you! The rare occurrence of such situations, coupled with the special handling and installation skills involved, add to the challenges of large tap installations. With the ability to routinely install taps up to 36 inches for both water and sewer, Barger and Sons offers you an alternative that addresses all of your challenges while minimizing the hassle for you.
